2010 MWGA JUNIOR TOURNAMENT
CREEKMOOR GOLF CLUB
RAYMORE, MO
JUNE 9 - 10

McCall Christopher of Lee's Summit
Wins the 2010 MWGA Junior Amateur Championship

Five inches of rain fell on Creekmoor Golf Club, cutting short the practice round for the players in Raymore, MO.  Nancy Sebastian, MWGA Junior Director, was delighted to see excellent course conditions to start round one of the 50th playing of the MWGA Missouri Junior Amateur Championship.  Caroline Rouse of St. Louis shot McCall Christophera 77 to finish round one with a one shot lead over local golfer, McCall Christopher of Lee's Summit.  The leaders were closely followed by seven players, all within six shots of the lead.  Defending champion, Kate Gallagher of Savannah fell short this year and is looking forward to starting the fall at Missouri with the lady Tigers golf team.
The second round began in blustery overcast conditions.  McCall, a senior at Lee's Summit North, kept a steady pace shooting par on the demanding front nine and went one under with her birdie on the par five #13.  A triple bogey on a par three  # 17 was the only slip as she finished with a solid 74 to win the 2010 Junior title by ten shots. McCall will add to her stellar golf credentials as she is the District 2 State Champion, has received the 2009 Kenneth Smith Award and was named the Examiner's 2009 Girl Golfer of the Year.  McCall plans to attend Indiana State University in the fall.
A traditional bagpiper played after the final group came in, captivating the players as the score cards were tallied and awards were determined.  Morgan Lamberson, Marshall, MO, won runner up with a two day total of 162.  Caroline Rouse, St. Louis, won the first round Medalist award for her opening score of 77.  Gina DellaCamera (St. Joseph Academy) was the A flight winner with a total of 164.  Brianna Bondon (Notre Dame de Sion), Jordan Chael (St. Thomas Aquinas), Joni Purvis (Camdenton R-III), Alexis Buford (St. Teresa's Academy), and Mackenzie Griffin (Camdenton High School) all won their respective flights.

The Missouri Four State Team was chosen from the top finishing scores and will travel to Otter Creek Golf Course, Ankeny, IA during June 27-29th to compete in the two day team Junior Girls Four State Championship against Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.

MISSOURI BRINGS HOME A WINNER!!!
Missouri Four State Team Members
McCall Christopher, Lee's Summit; Gina DellaCamera, Town and Country; Morgan Lamberson, Marshall; Meghan Mueller, Columbia; Caroline Rouse, St. Louis

MISSOURI is the 2010 Four State Champion. Caroline Rouse shot a 69 in mostly sunny weather...and LOW WINDS....the first day of competition was a very windy, wet day...winds were ranging from 25-35 mph. Not exactly ideal golf weather. However, the second day was everything you would want for the final day of a golf championship....82 degree weather with very mild winds and mostly sunny conditions...and Missouri took advantage of that great weather.
Caroline comments on the final round play: "There was casual water all around and conditions were tough. I just tried to go out there and make 18 pars...and I just happened to throw three birdies Four Statein there. I wasrelaxed and had a good putting day. It's my first time playing for a teamoutside of high school, and it really makes a difference when you're playing for your state. When you have four other girls rooting for you...it's really an awesome experience. There was less stress for me because I knew the other girls were out there playing well ,too."
She couldn't resist a phone call to Dad..."Dad, you ever shot a 69?" No Answer but we bet he is very PROUD!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PLAYERS, CAPTAINS...and the challenge has been passed to the Missouri Fore State Team to bring home a winner in August.
