For the first time in the seventy six year history of the Missouri Women's Golf Association championships, the MWGA Senior Championship has been canceled due to severe weather approaching an already rain soaked Jefferson City Country Club. The greens staff made heroic efforts in their attempts to dry the course and allow play, but the weather forecast would not allow the already shortened event to begin. The only years with interrupted competitions were 1942 – 1945, as a result of the national war effort during World War II.
The MWGA would like to express its’ sincere gratitude and appreciation to Head Professional Mike Wensing, Monte Rowden, Tim Kauffman and their staff for their attempts to render the championship venue playable for the 120 competitors. Jefferson City Country Club’s hospitality during the delays was beyond compare, as a Tuesday night Senior Banquet was the highlight of the three days.

|  Mary Ann has been a sportswoman her entire life. She was a professional tennis player during 1964-1972, ranking in the top 10 in the U.S. and playing against such greats as Martina Navratilova. She competed in five Wimbledon Championships, five US Opens, and one Australian Open. After switching to golf, she continued making the news by qualifying several years in the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championships and holding St. Louis District Champion titles in 2000 and 2007.
Soft spoken and humble about her accomplishments, Mary Ann was visibly thrilled winning the 2009 Missouri Women's Senior Amateur Championship title. Her close friend and nine time senior champion, Barbara Berkmeyer, speaks highly of Mary Ann and appeared very happy for her while they were paired along with Harriette Meyers of New Madrid on the final day of competition. High winds hampered low scoring during the competition but Mary Ann's accuracy off the tee kept her in play along with making key par-saving putts. The Missouri Women's Golf Association is proud to honor Mrs. Mary Ann Beattie as the 2009 Missouri Women's Senior Champion.
