The Missouri Women's Golf Association completed it's Senior Women's Amateur Championship last week at The Deuce at The National in Kansas City.  Mary Ann Beattie of Chesterfield captured her first Senior Women's Amateur title after besting nine time champion Barbara Berkmeyer this year.  Harriette Meyers of New Madrid couldn't improve on her opening tying round of 80 to mount any charge on day two.  Mary Ann Beattie is a member of the Country Club of St. Albans and a recent National Club Champions title holder.  In 2007, she was runner up in the Women's Western Golf Association Senior Championship in Naples, Florida.
Mary Ann has been a sportswoman her entire life, as she was a professional tennis player during 1964-1972 and was ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. playing against such greats as Martina Navratilova.  She played in five Wimbledon Championships, five US Opens, and one Australian Open.  After switching to golf, she continued making the news by qualifying  several years in the USGA Senior Women's Amateur championships and holding St. Louis District Champion titles in 2000 and 2007.

WOMEN OF MISSOURI....the challenge has been issued by Arizona.

The 2009 Women's Trans National Four Ball Championship was won by an Arizona team of two...and they have issued a challenge to all amateur women golfers...they think they can also win the upcoming Women's Trans National Amateur Championship. We say that we in Missouri have some talented golfers who can easily compete for the amateur title. We have two MWGA members scheduled to compete: 2008 Junior Champion Catherine Dolan, Carolyn Schorgl and Allison Micheletti along with University of Missouri student Julia Potter. Are you up to the challenge? Click here for more information.
